Maximum-Prefix

A BGP neighbor limit on the number of prefixes accepted, protecting against route leaks and table overflows.

Definition

When the limit is exceeded the session is torn down by default, or a warning-only mode logs it. A restart timer can bring the session back automatically. Providers apply it to customer and peering sessions.

Example

neighbor 203.0.113.1 maximum-prefix 1000 90 restart 15

Exam tip

After exceeding maximum-prefix, the session stays down until cleared unless restart is configured.
