Locator/ID Separation Protocol (LISP)

A protocol that separates endpoint identity (EID) from location (RLOC) using a mapping system, used as the SD-Access control plane.

Definition

Endpoints keep EIDs while routers (xTRs) map them to RLOC addresses through map servers and map resolvers. Ingress tunnel routers query the mapping system and encapsulate traffic to the egress tunnel router. It supports mobility and multihoming at scale.

Example

router lisp / service ipv4 / map-server / map-resolver

Exam tip

LISP map-server registers EIDs; map-resolver answers map requests.
