kube-scheduler

The control plane component that assigns newly created pods to suitable nodes.

Definition

The scheduler filters nodes that meet requirements (resources, node selectors, affinity, taints and tolerations) and scores them to pick the best. Pods that cannot be placed remain Pending.

Example

A pod requesting 8 GiB memory stays Pending because no node has enough allocatable memory.

Exam tip

Pending pods usually mean scheduling constraints; check kubectl describe pod events.
