Graphics Power Connector

PSU connectors (6-pin, 8-pin, or 16-pin 12V-2x6) that supply supplemental power to graphics cards.

Definition

A PCIe x16 slot supplies up to 75 W, so higher-power GPUs need 6-pin (75 W), 8-pin (150 W), or 16-pin 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 connectors (up to 600 W). The 12V-2x6 revision improves sense pins to reduce melting from partially seated connectors. Connectors must be fully seated.

Example

Plug a 12V-2x6 cable fully into an RTX 50-series card until no gap is visible.

Exam tip

Display artifacts or no video under load can indicate a missing or loose GPU power cable.
