git revert

A Git command that creates a new commit that undoes the changes made by a previous commit.

Definition

Revert is safe for shared branches because it does not rewrite history. In GitOps, reverting the commit that changed a manifest rolls the deployment back.

Example

git revert 9c1e2d4 creates a commit that inverses 9c1e2d4.

Exam tip

revert adds history (safe for public branches); reset removes history (local only).
