Full Backup

A backup that copies all selected data regardless of when it last changed.

Definition

Full backups are simplest to restore because only one set is needed, but they take the most time and storage. Most strategies combine periodic fulls with incrementals or differentials.

Example

A weekly full backup runs every Saturday night, with incrementals on other days.

Exam tip

Full backups clear the archive bit (on Windows file-based backups) and are the baseline for incrementals and differentials.
