firewalld Zone

A named firewalld trust level, such as public, internal or trusted, that applies a rule set to interfaces or source addresses.

Definition

Each interface or source belongs to one zone, and the default zone (usually public) applies otherwise. Zones let a host apply different rules for different networks.

Example

firewall-cmd --zone=internal --add-source=10.10.0.0/16 --permanent assigns a management subnet to the internal zone.

Exam tip

Check firewall-cmd --get-active-zones to see which zone actually governs an interface.
