Fiber End-Face Inspection

Examining a fiber connector end face with a microscope to detect dirt, scratches, or damage.

Definition

Contamination is the leading cause of fiber link problems. The best practice is 'inspect before you connect': inspect, clean if needed, reinspect, then mate. IEC 61300-3-35 defines pass/fail criteria.

Example

Inspect an LC connector with a video probe and clean it with a click cleaner before plugging into a switch.

Exam tip

Always inspect and clean fiber connectors before mating.
