Database Table

The core relational storage object: a named set of rows sharing the same columns; formally called a relation.

Definition

A table is a two-dimensional structure in which each column has a name and data type and each row holds one record. In relational theory a table is a relation, a row is a tuple and a column is an attribute. Rows in a table have no guaranteed order unless a query specifies ORDER BY.

Example

CREATE TABLE Employees (EmpID INT PRIMARY KEY, Name VARCHAR(100), HireDate DATE);

Exam tip

Remember the vocabulary mapping: relation = table, tuple = row/record, attribute = column/field.
