Row

A single record in a table, holding one value (or NULL) for each column; called a tuple in relational theory.

Definition

A row represents one instance of the entity the table describes, such as one customer or one order. Each row should be uniquely identifiable by a primary key. The number of rows in a table is sometimes called its cardinality.

Example

One row in Customers might be (1042, 'Ana Ruiz', 'Madrid').

Exam tip

Questions may call rows 'records' or 'tuples'; all three mean the same thing.
