Dante

Audinate's widely used audio-over-IP technology that carries many channels of low-latency digital audio over standard Ethernet.

Definition

Dante runs over Layer 3 IP networks with automatic device discovery, routing configured in Dante Controller, and clock synchronization using PTP, with AES67 interoperability available. It supports configurable latency from sub-millisecond to several milliseconds and unicast or multicast flows. Best practices include gigabit switches, QoS with PTP traffic marked CS7 and audio EF, disabling Energy Efficient Ethernet, and using Dante Domain Manager for security and segmentation.

Example

A ceiling microphone array, DSP and amplifiers exchange 32 channels of 48 kHz audio over a Dante VLAN.

Exam tip

Dante requires QoS for clock and audio, and Energy Efficient Ethernet should be disabled on switch ports.
