AES67

An AES interoperability standard for high-performance audio over IP using RTP, PTPv2 and common audio formats.

Definition

AES67 defines a common baseline so audio-over-IP systems from different vendors, such as Dante, Ravenna, Q-LAN and Livewire, can exchange streams. It specifies IEEE 1588-2008 PTP clocking, RTP transport, 48 kHz sampling with L16 or L24 encoding and packet times such as 1 ms. SMPTE ST 2110-30 audio is based on AES67.

Example

A Dante console sends an AES67 multicast stream to a Ravenna-based broadcast mixer.

Exam tip

AES67 is an interoperability layer, not a complete control or discovery system.
