Bluetooth

A short-range 2.4 GHz wireless personal area network technology standardized by the Bluetooth SIG.

Definition

Bluetooth Classic (BR/EDR) uses 79 1-MHz channels with adaptive frequency hopping at 1,600 hops per second, and a piconet has one central device with up to seven active peripherals. Pairing uses Secure Simple Pairing modes such as Numeric Comparison and Just Works. Attacks include bluejacking (unsolicited messages), bluesnarfing (data theft), and bluebugging (device control).

Example

A wireless headset pairs with a laptop over Bluetooth.

Exam tip

Bluesnarfing steals data; bluejacking only sends unsolicited messages.
