BGP Network Statement

The BGP command that advertises a prefix only if an exact match (prefix and mask) exists in the routing table.

Definition

Unlike IGP network commands, BGP's network statement does not enable interfaces; it injects a prefix into BGP if the RIB contains it exactly. A static route to Null0 is commonly used to anchor a prefix.

Example

network 198.51.100.0 mask 255.255.255.0

Exam tip

If the mask does not exactly match a RIB entry, the prefix is not advertised.
