AWS Lambda

AWS serverless compute service that runs code in response to events without provisioning servers, billed per request and duration.

Definition

Lambda runs functions in supported runtimes or container images, triggered by services such as API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB Streams, SQS and EventBridge. Functions can run up to 15 minutes with configurable memory up to 10,240 MB (CPU scales with memory) and use an execution role for permissions. Scaling is automatic up to account concurrency limits.

Example

A Lambda function triggered by API Gateway reads and writes items in DynamoDB for a serverless REST API.

Exam tip

Workloads longer than 15 minutes do not fit Lambda; consider Step Functions orchestration, AWS Batch or containers.
