Audio Digital Signal Processor (Audio DSP)

A processor that performs digital audio functions such as mixing, EQ, dynamics, AEC, routing and delay in AV systems.

Definition

Audio DSPs replace racks of analog processors and are configured with software, often supporting networked audio (Dante, AES67), USB, VoIP and analog I/O. They host acoustic echo cancellation for conferencing, automatic mixers, matrix routing and room combining. Examples include Biamp Tesira, Q-SYS Core and Shure IntelliMix devices.

Example

A Q-SYS Core processes 16 ceiling microphones with AEC and sends a mixed output to the Room Kit over USB.

Exam tip

Know the typical processing order: input gain, high-pass filter, AEC, EQ, dynamics, automixer, output processing.
