AppArmor

A Linux mandatory access control module that confines programs using path-based profiles, default on Ubuntu and SUSE.

Definition

AppArmor profiles in /etc/apparmor.d run in enforce or complain mode. aa-status lists loaded profiles and aa-complain or aa-enforce switch modes. It is easier to author than SELinux but uses paths rather than labels.

Example

aa-complain /usr/sbin/mysqld switches the MySQL profile to log-only mode for troubleshooting.

Exam tip

AppArmor is path-based; SELinux is label-based.
