Antistatic Wrist Strap

A strap worn on the wrist and clipped to ground to keep a technician at the same potential as equipment.

Definition

The strap includes a resistor (typically 1 megohm) for safety and connects to the chassis or a grounded mat. It should not be worn when working on high-voltage equipment such as power supplies or CRTs. Antistatic mats and heel straps complement it.

Example

Attach the alligator clip to an unpainted part of the case frame.

Exam tip

Do not wear an ESD strap when working inside high-voltage devices.
