Angle of Arrival (AoA)

A location method that determines signal direction from phase differences across an antenna array.

Definition

AoA receivers use multi-element arrays to measure the direction a signal arrives from; combining angles from multiple receivers yields position. Bluetooth 5.1 direction finding uses a constant tone extension for AoA and AoD. Some Wi-Fi APs also support AoA.

Exam tip

AoA needs antenna arrays; RSSI methods do not.
