Adjacent Channel Interference (ACI)

Corruption caused by transmitters on overlapping or nearby channels.

Definition

ACI occurs when spectrum overlaps, such as channels 1 and 3 in 2.4 GHz. Devices may not defer to each other, causing collisions and retransmissions. Using only non-overlapping channels and proper spacing avoids ACI.

Example

An AP on channel 3 interferes with neighbors on channels 1 and 6.

Exam tip

Overlapping 2.4 GHz channels cause more harm than co-channel operation.
