2.4 GHz Band

The 2.400-2.4835 GHz ISM band used by 802.11b/g/n/ax, with only three non-overlapping 20 MHz channels in North America.

Definition

The 2.4 GHz band has 14 channels spaced 5 MHz apart, though availability varies by country (1-11 in the US, 1-13 in much of the world). Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the standard non-overlapping set. It offers better range but suffers more interference and limited capacity.

Example

An office uses channels 1, 6, and 11 on its 2.4 GHz radios.

Exam tip

Use 20 MHz channels only in 2.4 GHz; 40 MHz leaves no room for a reuse plan.
