xcopy

A legacy Windows command that copies files and directory trees.

Definition

xcopy supports options such as /s (subdirectories, excluding empty), /e (including empty), /h (hidden files), and /y (suppress overwrite prompts). It is deprecated in favor of robocopy but still appears on exams.

Example

xcopy C:\Projects D:\Backup\Projects /e /h /i

Exam tip

Use xcopy /s or /e to include subfolders; plain copy does not.
