Windows Defender Firewall

The host-based stateful firewall built into Windows, with Domain, Private, and Public profiles.

Definition

Windows Defender Firewall filters inbound and outbound traffic per network profile; Public is the most restrictive. Rules can be configured by program, port, or service in wf.msc or managed by Group Policy and Intune. Disabling it to solve connectivity is a poor practice.

Example

Allow an app through the firewall only on the Domain profile.

Exam tip

Network classified as Public blocks file and printer sharing; check the profile.
