vPC Peer Link

The port channel between two vPC peer switches that synchronizes state and carries traffic for orphan ports and flooding.

Definition

The peer link carries control traffic (CFS) and vPC VLANs. A separate peer keepalive link, typically over the management network, detects whether the peer is alive to avoid dual-active split-brain. If the peer link fails while keepalive is up, the secondary suspends its vPC ports.

Example

Two 100 GbE links form the peer link while mgmt0 carries the peer keepalive.

Exam tip

Do not run the peer keepalive over the peer link; it must be a separate path.
