User Account Control (UAC)

A Windows feature that prompts for consent or credentials before actions requiring administrative privileges.

Definition

UAC runs users with standard privileges until elevation is approved, reducing the impact of malware. Admins see a consent prompt, while standard users must enter admin credentials. Disabling UAC weakens security.

Example

Installing software triggers a UAC prompt asking for an administrator password.

Exam tip

UAC supports least privilege; do not recommend disabling it to fix app prompts.
