Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII)

FCC-defined unlicensed sub-bands in 5 GHz (U-NII-1 to U-NII-4) and 6 GHz (U-NII-5 to U-NII-8).

Definition

U-NII-1 is 5.150-5.250 GHz (channels 36-48), U-NII-2A is 5.250-5.350 GHz (52-64, DFS), U-NII-2C is 5.470-5.725 GHz (100-144, DFS), U-NII-3 is 5.725-5.850 GHz (149-165), and U-NII-4 extends to 5.925 GHz (169-177). U-NII-5 through U-NII-8 form the 6 GHz band. Rules for power and DFS differ per sub-band.

Example

Channel 100 is in U-NII-2C and requires DFS.

Exam tip

U-NII-2A and U-NII-2C require DFS in the US.
