Transceiver

A device that both transmits and receives signals, typically a pluggable module converting electrical signals to optical or copper media.

Definition

Network transceivers are matched by speed, form factor, wavelength, fiber type and reach. Both ends of a link must use compatible transceivers. Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) reports temperature, voltage and light levels.

Example

show interfaces transceiver displays the receive power of each optic.

Exam tip

Mismatched wavelength or fiber type between transceivers is a common reason a fiber link stays down.
