Target Wake Time (TWT)

An 802.11ax power-saving feature in which client and AP negotiate scheduled wake times.

Definition

TWT lets devices sleep for long periods and wake only at agreed intervals to exchange data. It reduces contention and greatly extends battery life for IoT and mobile devices. Individual and broadcast TWT agreements exist; Wi-Fi 7 adds restricted TWT for latency-sensitive traffic.

Example

An IoT sensor wakes once every 10 minutes to report data.

Exam tip

TWT is the Wi-Fi 6 battery-life feature.
