Rule-Based Access Control (RuBAC)

Access control model that applies global rules to all subjects, such as time-of-day or firewall rules.

Definition

Rule-based access control evaluates predefined rules set by administrators, independent of user identity or role. Firewall rule sets and time-based login restrictions are typical examples. It is sometimes abbreviated RBAC, which causes confusion with role-based access control.

Example

A rule blocks all logins to the payroll system between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Exam tip

If the question mentions time-of-day or firewall rules applied to everyone, choose rule-based.
