Routed Port

A physical switch port converted to Layer 3 with no switchport, behaving like a router interface.

Definition

Routed ports have no VLAN association and do not run STP. They are used for point-to-point uplinks in routed access and spine-leaf designs, improving convergence by removing Layer 2 loops.

Example

interface Gi1/0/48 / no switchport / ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.252

Exam tip

Routed access designs eliminate STP on uplinks and FHRPs at the distribution layer.
