Resource Pool

A logical abstraction in vSphere that groups CPU and memory resources and applies shares, reservations and limits to its VMs.

Definition

Resource pools organize capacity for departments or service tiers in DRS-enabled clusters. They are not folders; using them merely for organization can cause unexpected resource distribution.

Example

A Production pool with high shares gets priority over a Test pool during contention.

Exam tip

Do not use resource pools as folders; shares are divided among sibling objects, not per VM.
