Registered Jack 11 (RJ11)

A six-position modular connector, usually wired with two or four contacts, used for analog telephone lines and DSL.

Definition

RJ11 is narrower than RJ45 and carries one telephone line on the center two pins. RJ14 and RJ25 wire additional pairs in the same physical connector.

Example

A DSL modem connects to the wall phone jack with an RJ11 cable.

Exam tip

RJ11 = phone and DSL; RJ45 = Ethernet.
