Recovery Control

A control that restores systems, data, and operations after a disruptive incident.

Definition

Recovery controls extend corrective controls to restore resources and capabilities after a security violation or disaster. Examples include backups, disaster recovery sites, and system images. They are measured against RTO and RPO objectives.

Example

Restoring a ransomware-hit file server from immutable backups is a recovery control.

Exam tip

ISC2 lists recovery separately from corrective; backups are the classic example.
