Pseudonode

A virtual node representing a broadcast segment in a link-state topology, created by the IS-IS DIS or OSPF DR.

Definition

Routers on the LAN advertise a link to the pseudonode rather than to each other, reducing the number of links in the SPF graph from n squared to n. In IS-IS the pseudonode LSP has a non-zero pseudonode ID.

Example

An LSP ID such as R1.01-00 identifies a pseudonode LSP.

Exam tip

Using point-to-point network type on two-router Ethernet links removes the pseudonode and DIS/DR overhead.
