Point-to-Point Bridge (PtP)

A wireless link connecting two networks, typically between buildings, using directional antennas.

Definition

PtP bridges connect two wired networks with high-gain antennas and careful alignment. Design considerations include link budget, Fresnel zone clearance, fade margin, and regulatory limits. Licensed and unlicensed bands are both used.

Example

Two buildings 1 km apart are connected with 5 GHz bridges using 23 dBi panels.

Exam tip

Fresnel zone clearance and link budget are key bridge design questions.
