Highly Directional Antenna

An antenna with very narrow beamwidth and high gain, used for long point-to-point links.

Definition

Highly directional antennas such as parabolic dishes and grid antennas focus energy into a very tight beam. They achieve gains of 20 dBi or more and are used for long-distance bridges. Precise alignment is required.

Example

Two 30 dBi dishes link buildings 10 km apart.

Exam tip

Highly directional antennas are never used for indoor client access.
