Piggybacking

Entering a secure area with the consent of an authorized person who lets the intruder in.

Definition

Unlike tailgating, the authorized employee knowingly permits entry, often deceived by a plausible story. Some sources use the terms interchangeably. Policies requiring each person to badge individually and access control vestibules address it.

Example

An employee lets a "contractor" without a badge enter because he says he forgot it.

Exam tip

If the employee knowingly holds the door, many exams call it piggybacking.
