Originator ID

An optional non-transitive BGP attribute set by a route reflector to the router ID of the route's original iBGP source.

Definition

A route reflector sets ORIGINATOR_ID to the router ID of the iBGP peer that first sent the route into the AS. If a router receives a route with its own router ID as the originator, it discards it, preventing reflection loops back to the source.

Example

show ip bgp shows 'Originator: 10.255.0.3, Cluster list: 10.255.0.1'

Exam tip

ORIGINATOR_ID and CLUSTER_LIST are the two RR loop-prevention attributes.
