Null Hypothesis (H0)

The default assumption of no effect, no difference or no relationship, which a test tries to find evidence against.

Definition

H0 always contains the equality, for example μ1 = μ2. Evidence leads to rejecting H0 or failing to reject it.

Example

H0: the new checkout page has the same conversion rate as the old one.

Exam tip

H0 contains '=' and H1 contains ≠, < or >.
