Neighbor Zone

An Expressway zone that connects to a trusted peer such as CUCM, another Expressway or a gatekeeper on the internal network.

Definition

Neighbor zones define the address, protocol, transport and SIP profile for the peer, for example the CUCM SIP trunk from Expressway-C. Calls are routed into neighbor zones by search rules. Zone profiles adjust behavior for specific peer types such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Microsoft.

Example

Expressway-C has a neighbor zone to the CUCM subscribers using TLS on port 5061.

Exam tip

Neighbor zones are for trusted peers; DNS zones are for discovering arbitrary internet domains.
