Near-Far Problem

A distant low-power station's signal being drowned out by nearby high-power stations.

Definition

When stations close to a receiver transmit strongly, a distant weak station may not be heard or may be unable to detect the medium as busy. This is a form of hidden node behavior. Power control and AP placement help.

Exam tip

Near-far issues are common in mixed-power client populations.
