Transmit Power Control (TPC)

Adjusting transmit power to reduce interference, defined by 802.11h and used by RRM algorithms.

Definition

In 802.11h, TPC lets stations adjust transmit power to meet regulatory requirements in 5 GHz. Vendors also use TPC in RRM to automatically tune AP power for consistent coverage and minimal co-channel interference. Cisco TPC uses a default target of -70 dBm as heard by the third-strongest neighbor.

Exam tip

Distinguish the 802.11h regulatory TPC from vendor RRM TPC.
