Multi-Fiber Push On (MPO)

A rectangular multi-fiber connector holding 8, 12, 16, 24 or more fibers, used for parallel optics and high-density trunks.

Definition

MPO (and the branded MTP variant) supports 40G and 100G SR4 optics and pre-terminated data center trunks. Polarity methods (A, B and C) must be planned so transmitters connect to receivers.

Example

A 12-fiber MPO trunk feeds a cassette that breaks out to six duplex LC ports.

Exam tip

MPO is the connector for parallel multi-lane optics such as SR4.
