Molex Connector

A legacy 4-pin peripheral power connector supplying 5 V and 12 V, used for older drives and fans.

Definition

The Molex (AMP MATE-N-LOK) connector powered PATA drives and optical drives and still powers some fans and accessories. Wire colors are yellow 12 V, red 5 V, and black ground. Most modern drives use SATA power instead.

Example

An older case fan hub powered by a 4-pin Molex lead.

Exam tip

Yellow = +12 V, red = +5 V, orange = +3.3 V, black = ground in PC power cabling.
