Low Power Indoor (LPI)

A 6 GHz device class limited to indoor use and lower power without requiring AFC.

Definition

LPI APs are limited to 5 dBm/MHz PSD (30 dBm max EIRP) and clients to 6 dB below the AP in the US. LPI APs must not be weatherized or battery powered, and they cannot use detachable antennas. Most enterprise 6 GHz deployments started with LPI.

Exam tip

LPI = indoor, no AFC, lower PSD; Standard Power = AFC required.
