Key-Value Store

A NoSQL database that stores data as unique keys mapped to opaque values, optimized for fast lookups by key.

Definition

Key-value stores offer very low-latency get and put operations but limited querying by value. Use cases include session state, caching, shopping carts and feature flags. Examples are Redis, Amazon DynamoDB, Memcached and the Azure Cosmos DB Table API.

Example

SET session:8f2a '{"user":42,"cart":[3,9]}'

Exam tip

If access is always by a single known key and must be extremely fast, choose a key-value store.
