AWS Outposts

Fully managed AWS hardware racks or servers installed in a customer's data center to run AWS services on premises.

Definition

AWS Outposts extends AWS infrastructure, services, APIs and tools to customer premises for workloads needing low latency to on-premises systems, local data processing or data residency. AWS delivers, installs, monitors and maintains the hardware, which connects back to a parent region.

Example

A factory runs EC2 and EBS on an Outposts rack to process machine data locally with millisecond latency.

Exam tip

Outposts is the AWS hybrid answer when data must stay on site but teams want the same AWS APIs.
