Hertz (Hz)

The SI unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second.

Definition

One hertz is one complete cycle per second. Wireless engineering commonly uses kilohertz (10^3), megahertz (10^6), and gigahertz (10^9). Channel widths such as 20, 40, 80, 160, and 320 MHz are also expressed in hertz.

Example

2.4 GHz equals 2,400,000,000 cycles per second.

Exam tip

Do not confuse channel width (MHz) with center frequency (GHz).
