Google Cloud VPC

Global virtual network in Google Cloud whose regional subnets span zones, with distributed firewall rules and routes.

Definition

A Google Cloud VPC network is a global resource; subnets are regional, so a single VPC can span all regions without peering. Networks are auto mode (one subnet per region automatically) or custom mode (recommended). VPC firewall rules and network firewall policies are stateful, use priorities and can target network tags or service accounts; the implied rules deny ingress and allow egress.

Example

A custom-mode VPC has subnets in us-east1 and europe-west1 that communicate privately over Google's backbone.

Exam tip

Unlike AWS VPCs and Azure VNets, a Google VPC is global and subnets are regional, not zonal.
