Full Mesh

A topology in which every node has a direct link to every other node.

Definition

The number of links required is n(n-1)/2, which grows rapidly with node count, so full mesh is used only among small numbers of critical devices. It provides maximum redundancy and direct paths.

Example

Five core routers in full mesh need 5 x 4 / 2 = 10 links.

Exam tip

Memorize n(n-1)/2 for the link count.
